BONEDALE FISHING REPORT #24
BONEDALE FISHING REPORT #24
ALONE IN THE DEEP BLUE REACHES OF THE RIVER
When you last went fishing did you take your time as you walked the river? Did you see the animal tracks as you moved through the willows? Did you smell the watercress and mint, or better yet, taste it? Did you look at the piles of driftwood? The mosaic of colored stone shaped by the Master’s hand? Did you hear the wind? Did you cool your neck and face in the river? Did you sit beneath a shaded tree? Did you hear the osprey? Did you leave your Blackberry at home? When you landed a fish did you look at its markings? The perfect violet rings of the Brown? The pinkish gill plates of the Bow? Are you still five years old every time a fish rises to your fly? Do you love the way water wraps around you? What do you talk about with your fishing companions? Do you appreciate a well-tied dry? Do you like the way bamboo casts and feels? Can you remember a single trout for every year you’ve fished? Do you dream of tailing Bonefish and Permit? Can you skip a stone? Do you share all that you’ve learned? When you’re done fishing do you lie in the grass and watch the clouds? If so, I look forward to fishing with you.
