BONEDALE FISHING REPORT #26
THE LAST BEAR SHOT DRINKING IN THE DAKOTAS LOPED UNDER WIRES THAT SPAN THE MOUNTAIN STREAM
First light and most of the frost is off the windshield. I’ve driven this section of canyon a thousand times and it’s always different. The river runs along the road and my eyes are constantly drawn to its colors and textures. Iron Mike Thomas and Glen “Bear Cub” Melus hang lights in Aspen during the late season to make some extra cash. We talk about the river and its hidden seams, bends and riffles. I don’t think it’s the actual fish that keep me headed back to the water, but their possibility–the lies under stones, beneath root wads, deep in the undercuts. All the places you could never put a fly. All the zones I’ll never really know.
