Much of Simms’ clothing is suited for more than just fishing. Take the Women’s BugStopper Jogger: on-and-off-water pants that are lightweight, packable and super comfortable, which is great for fishing, travel, running errands or really anything. While I didn’t wear them for fishing (yet), I wore them for everything else: lounging, traveling, after-fishing-drinks with sand flies galore.

I appreciated the extra-wide waistband and ankle cuff made from a knitted, polyester/spandex fabric. Pants like these can tend to look like MC Hammer pants, so I appreciated the well-designed fit, without being too baggy through the legs. Because of the ankle cuff, I felt protected from bugs.

I was hesitant to wear them fishing and hiking through the New Zealand backcountry, because we were often bushwhacking and encountering blackberry bushes, and I didn’t want to rip them up, which those bushes can do. So, while they aren’t a first line of defense for jungle missions, they are high on the comfort and bug-stopping scales. I’m pretty sure I’ll find it hard to not wear these pants all summer long–lightweight, breathable and easy to get around in.

Pros

These joggers nailed it with comfort, cost and convenience.

Easy to slide on with accessible pockets, which are a must for me.

The BugStopper fabric (technology that incorporates permethrin) definitely repels bugs.

Fit is true to size.

Cons

Not quite as durable as other go-to fishing pants.

May slide down when wet. (Thankfully, there’s a waistband drawstring to counter that.)

Short-ish (28-inch) inseam.

Pricing

At $120, these joggers are a good value, made by a reputable fishing company.

Craftsmanship

Like all Simms products, these are high quality–thoughtful seam placement and a good cut to be flattering on nearly any woman.

Durability

So far, so good on product durability. The lighter cinder color I wore makes me nervous about getting stains out, but I haven’t had any issues yet. The new Basalt color also removes that worry.
