The Clouds Will Tell You
How tough will the day’s fishing conditions be?
Rule of thumb: low deck steady cover, get ready for some dry-fly fishing; high and bright, almost no clouds at all, fish terrestrials too gaudy to refuse, or go deep; mixed layer of cloud cover, with some passing low, and an umbrella up high–that’s a mixed bag because the conditions aren’t stable.
“Mixed bag” weather days are usually the toughest fishing days, and you absolutely need to keep your eyes peeled and react quickly as conditions evolve.
These are the days and conditions when the fish and fishing can change minute by minute.
